We have a warm week ahead of us except for a slightly cooler day on Wednesday.  The Canadian model is calling for an inch of snow on Wednesday, while the American and European Models are only calling for a dusting.

This weekend should remain warm, especially Saturday.  Sunny on Saturday and increasing clouds on Sunday before a possible system around Monday.

For the next Monday system, the Canadian Model is predicting 6”, the European Model is predicting 4”, and the American Model is predicting 2”.

Retrospective Discussion:

What a storm!  It buried the snowstake at Eldora, so my best guess was 26”.  The great Joel Gratz estimated 22”.  So let’s just say it was about two feet of snow.  The first real storm of the year!  Shortly before the storm, the Peaks Model predicted half what fell, and it was the closest.  The American, Canadian, European, and WRF models predicted a third of what fell.  Earlier that week, the Canadian Model predicted a third of what fell, with the European and American Models predicting a sixth of what fell.  If the models are going to be wrong, at least they underpredicted this one.

Cheers.

Geeky Notes:

References to the American Model are to the American (GFS) Model grid including Brainerd Lake with an average elevation of 9,439’.  References to the Canadian Model are the Canadian (GDPS) Model grid including Brainerd Lake with an average elevation of 10,253’.  References to the European Model are the European (ECMWF IFS) Model grid including Brainerd Lake.  References to the WRF Model are the CAIC WRF Hi-Res Model point forecast for Eldora Ski Area with an elevation of 9,189’.  References to the Icon and UKMet Models are to the point with my cursor at my best estimate of Eldora Ski Area.  For big picture overviews, I tend to rely on the American Model, not because I think it is the most accurate, but because (i) it is free and (ii) I like its interface.
